Mis season, Regular leaf, Indeterminate with Purple fruit between 8oz and 16oz (225g and 450g)
A slightly less tall indeterminate variety. The yields are excellent and the flavour is superb with a wonderful balance of sweetness and acidity. Thin skinned and best picked as soon as the fruits ripen.
True heirlooms often come with wonderful historic stories, Cherokee Purple is an excellent example of this. The seed was sent to Craig LeHoullier a leading tomato expert by Mr J D Green in the early 1990s. Mr Green was given the seed by a neighbour who said the seed had been in their family for about 100 years. Her family had got the seed from Cherokee Indians. The tomato was named by Craig LeHoullier.
